Diver Through “All Nighter” – Americana UK

On ‘All Nighter,’ Diver Through keep on skipping back and forth across the rock/Americana border line.

OK, so once again, Jacksonville Florida trio Diver Through and their latest album ‘All Nighter’, bring us to the question – where is that line that separates Americana from straight-out rock music? And the answer is … it’s quite blurred if you ask Michael Baynes (vox/guitars), Mike Rellah (Bass) and Ken Nasta (Drums). Simply put, the guys take their cues from artists that have already obscured those lines, like Bruce Springsteen (‘That Side Of Me Is Rage’), fellow Floridians The Silos (‘Heal What Hurts’), Tom Petty (title track), and in particular, Ryan Adams (‘To Death’ and elsewhere).

Essentially, even if Diver Through were simply feeling inspired by such big names, they would have quite big shoes to fill and would need some exceptional songwriting and playing/singing skills just to emulate such big hitters. Yet, the trio immerse themselves in this mostly uptempo rock-oriented sound with both skill and gusto and with enough individual soul invested in their music to give it the personal touch it deserves.

At the same time, all those previously mentioned artists often have that Americana streak in greater evidence but Diver Through do skip back and forth across the Americana-rock line with ease in their step.
